fellowship

a monetary award provided to support a student’s education, usually based on academic achievement or potential. May require students to maintain a certain level of performance (i.e., maintain a 3.0 GPA). Differs from an assistantship in that the money is to fund a student’s intended course of study and is not paid in exchange for work, such as TA duties.
