diversity

in academia, used to refer to the recognition of a wide range of personal experiences. “Diversity” is a property of groups rather than individuals. The term is often used to refer to “diversity of heritage,” i.e., the representation of people from a range of ethnic or cultural traditions/backgrounds taking part in an academic community. However, may also refer to diversity of gender, age, program of study, college readiness, family makeup, or any distinguishing personal factor.
