“Participation in the honors program calls on students to show a high level of independence in their research and the capacity to handle coursework at the level of a PhD student,” explains Director of Undergraduate Studies Dr. James Kindt.
“The rise in participation in the honors program reflects, I think, a broader increase in undergraduate research at all levels.”
Dr. James Kindt, Director of Undergraduate Studies
The twenty-two 2022 honors graduates break a record set just last year of 15 honors graduates. Dr. Kindt attributes the increase to increased awareness and student support. “As a reaction to the serious challenges imposed by the pandemic to undergraduate participation in research, the department (and in particular the program coordinator Emily Morran and director of undergraduate research Vince Conticello) have worked hard to make sure our majors know about and have access to opportunities both within and beyond the department. The rise in participation in the honors program reflects, I think, a broader increase in undergraduate research at all levels.”
Congratulations, all!
