Evan Weingarten is a 2024 graduate of Emory College. At Emory, he majored in both Chemistry and Philosophy.

Since the end of his sophomore year, Evan was actively involved in developing synthetic methods as part of Professor Huw Davies’ research group. Most recently, he worked on a collaborative project investigating the stereochemical influence of solvent on asymmetric rhodium(II)-catalyzed carbene reactions.

For the NSF GRFP, Evan proposed leveraging the oxidation/reduction of non-innocent ligands to generate transition metal frustrated Lewis pairs (TMFLPs) in-situ. This would provide access to novel reactive intermediates with several potential applications in chemical synthesis.

“I know Evan’s future is bright, and I am excited to see what great things will come from him during his career!”

Joshua Sailer

Graduate scholar and Davies Group member Josh Sailer worked with Evan for two years, starting in the summer of 2022. “Since the very first day, Evan showed an eagerness to learn and to put his knowledge to use in the lab,” he says. “He is a hard worker, gaining independence in the lab early on, and driving his research with his own ideas. I know Evan’s future is bright, and I am excited to see what great things will come from him during his career!”

Evan graduated from Emory in Spring 2024 with Highest Honors for his Honor’s Thesis in Chemistry. Next up, Evan will pursue his PhD in Chemistry at Cornell University.

Congratulations, Evan!
