Describe your family–including pets!

My family consists of my husband and son, both named Rashad, and a 12-year-old Bichon Frise named Hamitenn.

Talk about a time you took a risk and it failed. What did you learn?

One risk I took was working on my PhD while juggling family life and a full time job. I learned it was challenging.

Do you have a system for being productive and dealing with procrastination?

I usually tackle one task at a time in order of importance.

What makes you most excited about your work?

A friendly working environment and doing things that are meaningful to ME.

How do you handle pressure?

I try to remain calm and positive and stay away from the drama.

If you could be any other type of scientist, what would you be and why?

I would be a biomedical scientist because I’m interested in clinical trials and medical research.

How did you find your passion in science? What’s the story behind it?

I always enjoyed science labs in high school and in college so I thought it would be fun and interesting.

What is your advice to chemistry undergraduates?

Take good notes and enjoy your time in the lab.

Among the people you’ve worked with, who do you admire and why?

Among the many people I have worked with, I admire the first lab tech to ever train me. She was my mentor. She was patient and knowledgeable. I strive to be like her everyday.

If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have?

I would want to have unlimited physical endurance.

If you could re-make any movie, TV series, etc… what would it be and what would you change?

If I could remake, “The Walking Dead”, I wouldn’t have killed Rick off the show.

Would you rather win the lottery or work at the perfect job? And why?

I would rather win the lottery. Winning the lottery would allow me to have financial freedom along with the ability to do what I want with my free time; whether it be community service, donating, or just spending time with my family.

If you could go back in time to change one thing, what would it be?

If I could go back in time, I would not change anything. I am happy with how I have lived my life. I don’t have any regrets.
